People with experience and know-how are unquestionably StS’ greatest resource. "You might say that 95% of our company’s assets ‘go home for dinner’ every day. My job is to make sure they continue doing so and that is the reason for why our company put such emphasis on HSE," says Jan Arvid Jensen, CEO StS.
In StS, accidents are simply not accepted. Health and safety are the responsibility of every single employee – not only managers and team leaders. Everyone is expected to act if they witness a sign of carelessness or react if they observe a negligent practice of safety measures. To get the result of a conscious and active employee the organization is closely and continuously working with the concerns of QA. Having working procedures in order and deviants under control is two important factors for a successful quality assured organization. The organization is always looking to get feedback from both employees and customers in order to improve further and to get even better.Hence, there is an ongoing joint effort between employees to improve further. As a result, accident rates are decreasing and the quality of work improves. For a number of years the StS have not had a single day of absence due to work related injuries – even though we are one of the largest employers in Western Norway counting a workforce of several hundred professionals.
Long-term relationships
Our customers share our attitude. The offshore industry in the North Sea is no exception, and takes great care, investing in considerable resources to improve HSE. Consequently, our uncompromising approach give us a competitive edge and that is one factor, which has given StS long-term relationships with many of Norway’s major industrial companies.
Beyond expectations
There are several indicators showing that our employees appreciate the care the organization shows for their health and well-being. One indicator is the result we get from our regular studies and it shows that our employees believe the StS is a great organization to work for. Smiles and laughter, good stories and conversations over a cup of coffee are other signs. There is a very small turnover at StS, although we are rapidly expanding and hiring more professionals in numerous fields. As a result, many of our employees have been with the company for more than 20 years and they have skills and know-how, which can only come from extensive experience in the business. We appreciate that being a very positive factor as they probably would not stay if they wouldn’t find the work rewarding. Finally, there is an additional reason for our company’s HSE practice and personnel policy: a highly motivated workforce performs beyond expectations. This is also something our customers experience regularly.
